Gates told the Marines the United States knew little about the rebels, other than some of the people at the top of the opposition.

"This is one of the reasons why there has been such a reluctance, at least on our part, to provide any kind of lethal assistance to the opposition," Gates said.

He said the Obama administration had seen reports of extremists fighting for the opposition.
"We see information and we hear from the opposition that they're trying to isolate these people and get them out of the movement because they realize the risks associated with that in terms of international support," Gates said.

Speaking to reporters, Jebril denied there were al Qaeda members among the rebels but said their forces did include 11 people who had lived in Afghanistan and subsequently went through a "reconciliation" process with the Gaddafi government.

This is whole point, which is understandable, the NTC try hard to cure this enrooted the US clinical all-phobia conception.  Allies on US is crucial winning this battle.  the Youth up raising based on inspiration of western democracy,  based on humanity, without humanity there is no such thing as democracy,  so hard to imagine been through this  bloodshed battle of revolution,  when this all comes to end, actualization of  their noble deed any other than  a western style of democracy.   We have seen already who are the Al Qaeda, unsubstantiated doctrinaires of terrorists. Libya is different that Iraq and Afghanistan e.g. well educated,  I think NTC leaderships able to fold ex-Al Qaeda(if have any) into one folder as uprising, but “look-not-so-desirable-to-US et al”,  not coy about it, the file open up,  deal with them transparent,  if they want to make a born-again-pledge-freedom-fighters, to pledge to the world media. Toppling Gaddafis and establishing Libya democracy comes first foremost, but with a hefty price tag, FEB 17th raised with bare hands, so far their achievements is a great, but do need more hard work  to get there where they want to be, as dealing with reality, actualization of their noble deed need money and blood. Rooted of the wining the world, focus on access the frozen Libyan Peoples’ money to pay administration of under NTC control, schooling children, hospital protecting civilian etc…  NTC show the world they are the capable, trustworthy and stable. Instead ask other countries to help the Libyan’s revolution from their taxpayer money. Assurance to US et al, the Youth  Feb 17^th   disarm when Gaddafi toppled Free. Libya is One Libya in their mind.

End of the interview Wolf wolfish territorial menacing  “… I know you graduate from Pittsburgh University…almost coming home…?!”  The Yankee never forget that what they are doing, never shame of showing off their achievement, so made in USA all sort of hybrid; some become  a terrorist so they want to kill them with their cool drone and some become a leader so they showered  with BigMac-affection! What a hoot!  

If I ware NTC as nothing to loss, direct marketing cold calling for their cause, send out letters to all the countries Libya has been traded and the countries seized the Libyan Peoples’ money, and ask them specific arms and other items they need to protect civilians defence their live hood, with special numbers e.g. 1,000 rifles, 100 rocket launches etc…
