US secretary of state John Kerry calls for support to end Syria 'imbalance'
United States secretary of state John Kerry says supporters of Syria's rebels will step up military and other aid in a bid to end an "imbalance" in president Bashar al-Assad's favour..
He says that this attitude, coupled with evidence of chemical weapons use, means that supporters of the rebels have no choice but to provide greater assistance in order to create a military balance that would help peace efforts.
"To provide greater assistance of one kind or another, each nation making its own decision as to what it is comfortable doing," he said....Qatari prime minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem al-Thani echoed Mr Kerry's remarks, calling for arms deliveries to the rebels to create a military balance that could help forge peace.
A peaceful end "cannot be reached unless a balance on the ground is achieved, in order to force the regime to sit down to talks," he told the ministers.
